The importance of feedback for visual artists

Untitled#3
By Frances Neville

Monday 4th February 2008

Today Art+Power Artists were discussing Malcolm’s comments about how some people are too polite to say what they really think about art (Actor Training 29th January 2008).

We talked as a group about a painting by Frances Neville, an Art+Power artist. We chatted about her painting and how it made us feel. This led us to talk about peoples’ comments concerning our work, how this could affect us, and how others interpret our work. We talked about how important feedback is on our work, and how we value the truth.

We really value feedback, it can help us to track the success of what we’re communicating in our artwork, it is important to us, as it can sometimes be hard for us to be detached about our own work.

Frances has kindly agreed to put her painting on the BLOG and would welcome comments from people from all groups in Art+Power.

I like this painting because it reminds me of the mystical pyramids of Ancient Egypt.

Frances, I really like the 3D perspective. The shapes look like they are flying. That looks like a difficult effect to achieve. Good use of colour too.
