Price our work

We talked today about how we price our work. This discussion started when Darren Star brought in his latest piece of work, which he is currently working on and which he has already sold.

So what goes into our decision when pricing our own work?

Time, Effort, Materials, Longevity and Size our some of the aspects we need to consider.

It is difficult to price work. We could be lazy and say 'let the market decide - sell it for what you can get for it' but I think we're all getting far to lazy with things like this. I think we should have the discussion about what makes art good or valuable.

I must admit I find it difficult to understand a lot of art. I don't have the tools, I can't unlock the codes. I don't think I'm alone in this - I read an article by Melvyn Bragg saying he finds philosophy difficult. 'I just don't feel I have the map'. I don't feel that I have the map to art, poetry or music but I'd like to find one. I think we should talk to people who do and find out what they think is important.
We don't have to accept other people's views, but we do need to understand them so that unlock the codes and make our own map.
